Technical Officer at Maternal and Child Health Integrated Program

The Maternal and Child Health Integrated Program (MCHIP) is USAID’s flagship award for maternal, newborn andchild health. 

MCHIP aims to accelerate the reduction of maternal, newborn and child mortality in Kenya through  the introduction, development and scale-up of high-impact interventions. 

MCHIP is implemented by Jhpiego and its partners including; Save the Children, John Snow, Inc., Johns Hopkins University/Institute for International Programs, Macro International, Inc., Program for Appropriate Technology in Health, Broad Branch Associates, and Population Services International.


MCHIP is currently looking for an experienced individual with excellent technical skills who is dedicated, hardworking, highly motivated and able to work in a high pressure environment requiring multi-tasking.


Technical Officer – Maternal, Newborn and Child Health

2 Positions (Igembe North and East Pokot) 

1 Year Contract

Reporting to the Project Technical Advisor, the Technical Officer-MNCH will be responsible for the development, implementation and monitoring of the work plans in Igembe North and East Pokot districts in Meru and Baringo Counties respectively.

She/he will provide technical guidance in the area of Maternal, Newborn and Child Health services to include Immunization and Nutrition; and work closely with the MCHIP MNCH Technical advisors and program staff. 

The Technical officer- MNCH will also work closely with the MCHIP- Kenya and MCHIP global staff to ensure comprehensive technical and programmatic support in MCHIP.

Responsibilities:
  • Assist in the development of tools and strategies for improving Maternal, Newborn and Child Health programs
  • Provide technical support to ministry of health (MOH) staff
  • Coordinate with DMOH on the monthly and quarterly partner coordination meetings
  • Provide technical support to key initiatives: Malezi bora, World Breastfeeding week, World Contraceptives day, Global hand washing day etc
  • Represent MCHIP in technical meetings on Maternal Newborn and Child Health
  • Enhance linkages between clinical care and community activities
  • Develop and maintain excellent working relationship with MOH, partners, APHIAPlus projects and other health NGOs
  • Prepare work plans and activity budgets; annual, quarterly and monthly progress reports
  • Assist in monitoring and evaluation of the program
Qualifications:
  • Must possess a higher Diploma in Nursing or Clinical Officer
  • 5 years’ experience supporting Maternal and Child Health programs
  • Strong background and knowledge of malaria, PMTCT, maternal and newborn health, Child Health, Nutrition, immunization, focused ANC, supervision and quality improvement systems
  • Training & support supervision experience in Maternal and Child Health programs
  • Must be conversant with the local language and sensitive to socio-cultural issues in the region.
  • Experience of work at community level required
  • Computer literacy, particularly in the use of MS Word, MS Excel, PowerPoint.
