Postpartum Family Planning (PFP) Study

Position: Family Planning Nurse Counselor  

1 Position

Location: Nairobi 

Reporting to: Study Coordinator

Position Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Screen and enroll eligible women in all parts of the health centre
  • Ensure proper administration of consent procedures
  • Administer screening and enrollment questionnaires to participants
  • Ensure that data are collected accurately and resolve any discrepancies
  • Perform follow-up visits with participants in clinic setting
  • Perform HIV rapid testing and counseling for adult participants
  • Perform phlebotomy on adult patients
  • Perform pelvic exams as part of family planning duties
  • Prepare weekly, monthly and quarterly reports for the Study Coordinator
  • Provide on-going counseling and make relevant referrals for on-going support including medical clinics and support groups.
  • Assist with Maternal and Child Health activities as needed
  • Perform other duties as directed by study coordinator
Qualifications:
  • Master’s degree or Bachelor’s degree in Nursing (MScN or BScN)
  • Minimum of one year previous experience in clinical or research activities
  • Strong background in reproductive health or family planning
  • Familiarity with HIV-testing, prevention, and treatment strategies
  • Basic computer skills particularly for Word-processing, spreadsheets and e-mail
  • Strong communication skills in English and Kiswahili
Desirable qualities, skills and abilities:
  • Experience with couple counseling and HIV testing, PMTCT, and/or HIV treatment
  • Certificate in Voluntary Counseling and Testing from NASCOP
  • Training in research ethics
  • Familiarity with research data collection
  • Attention to detail and good work ethic
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision
  • Respectful, punctual, hardworking, conscientious
  • Ability to work effectively as a member of a collaborative team
Expectations:
  • Full-time position
  • Position length is 12 months, provided good performance
  • Competitive salary based on qualifications and experience
  • Based in Nairobi
