Since 1975, Chemonics has implemented 213 projects worldwide in natural resource management, biodiversity conservation, and climate change.
During the last five years alone, Chemonics has helped conserve and protect nearly 30 million acres of forests and ecologically sensitive land and seascapes in 19 countries by bringing them under improved and integrated natural resource management.
Chemonics seeks long- and short-term experienced professionals for two anticipated USAID-funded projects in Kenya focusing on improved natural resource management and sustainable development.
One project will focus on protecting Kenya’s valuable mountain ecosystems and associated river basins through the promotion of sustainable land management.
The other project will focus on improving the capacity of the national government to develop and
implement policies which reduce carbon emissions.
We are seeking specialists in the following areas:
- Community Based Natural Resource Management
- Environmental Policy and Governance
- Land and Resource Tenure
- Land Use Planning
- Forestry and Biodiversity
- Sustainable Livelihoods and Livelihood Development
- Forest, Rangeland, River, and Wetland Management
- Climate Change Adaptation and Mitigation
- Climate Change Policy and Analysis
- Low Emission Development Strategies and Tools
- Monitoring and Evaluation
- Communications
- Gender and Youth
Qualifications:
- Advanced degree preferred in natural resource management, forestry, ecology, environmental science, environmental policy, environmental law, or related field
- Minimum of five (5) years’ experience managing and implementing natural resource management programs
- Experience with USAID–funded donor projects highly preferred
- Previous experience working at county level in policy development
- Strong understanding of the natural resource management issues and challenges in Kenya
- Demonstrated experience working collaboratively with the Government of Kenya, international donors, and local organizations
- Experience working with gender, youth, and vulnerable groups
- Previous experience in Kenya or East Africa is preferred
- Fluency in English is required
